Rescued by Perseus on his return home with the head of Medusa. Her father had attempted to sacrifice her to the sea monster in a bid to save his kingdom from the wrath of Poseidon. She married her saviour, much against the wishes of her parents and Phineus, to whom she had previously been engaged, and in the conflict that ensued Perseus crushed the opposition by turning them to stone by showing them Medusa’s head.
